We always have a great time at Holden Beach. I personally have been coming to Holden Beach since I was a toddler while my parents fished, my brother and I played on the beach or slept on the pier wrapped in sleeping bags and there were just a scattered few houses on the island. It's no wonder that they retired there. It has great clean beaches, way less crowded than other beaches. Holden Beach is a very Family Friendly beach. It is the kind of family atmosphere that you can feel safe taking your children to and not have to worry about what they might witness. It has great restaurants and family fun things to do. It's a very community based area, so it is very easy to get around. There is so much to see in Brunswick County and surrounding places like The Battleship USS North Carolina in the port city of Wilmington. One of my favorite places to visit is the quant little Seaport town of Southport. I go there every time we're in the area. It's great for sightseeing. The historical homes have been completely restored. There are all kinds of local shops, museums , galleries and a beautiful waterfront park to relax in. There is the town cemetery where there are old graves of sea captains buried that is interesting if you are a history buff like me. I enjoy just looking at the dates and names on the old headstones. It's very peaceful and beautiful with all the live oaks. When you are tired after walking around, there are very nice restaurants like the Oliver's on the Cape Fear built in a 18th-century ship chandlier as well as the Edgewater 122 on the waterfront. Southport is my most favorite little town in the state! Visit... you'll be glad you did!
