(Using bathrooms with running water is simply how we roll).

We’ll then enter Yellowstone through the South Entrance shortly before 9 AM. From there, we’ll continue driving north to West Thumb Geyser Basin then to the famous Lake Yellowstone Hotel for short coffee break. Continuing west from Canyon, we’ll explore Norris Geyser Basin (one of the most extreme environments on the face of the Earth), Obsidian Cliffs (the first official wayside exhibit in Yellowstone), the Hoodoos, and Mammoth Geyser Basin.

After exploring Mammoth, we’ll then make our way to Chico Hot Springs Resort, a short 30-minute drive north of the Park, where you will have the chance to relax while eating dinner at a western-themed cowboy saloon. You’ll also enjoy two natural hot springs, a blazing campfire, and a dark starry sky. Wi-Fi is also available.

As first time visitors of both Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, we looked forward expectantly to the wonders of these two national parks. With the wise sage, Stace Noland, as our guide through Yellowstone and geologist extraordinaire, Ted Jackson, through the Grand Tetons, our expectations were met and then exceeded. Picking up the four of us promptly at 0700, our experienced guides drove the highways and byways of both national parks providing stories and insight to the history, the geology, and the wildlife who inhabit these American treasures, all with reverence and sensitivity to the animals and the environment. With frequent stops for photo opportunities, we were able to experience and to understand the natural phenomena occurring before our eyes. As a practical point, the vehicles used for our adventures were comfortable and spacious. Each day, a preordered breakfast and picnic lunch was provided along with healthy snacks. Binoculars were offered for each of us. Perhaps the most poignant take away from our Obsidian Expeditions was our new found wonder of both Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons as gleaned from two extraordinary guides as they shared their expertise, enthusiasm, and experience. Thank you Stace and Ted for our new found memories and awe of these national parks.
